Connect Claude Code, Codex and other compatible AI agents to your Skybits documents, canvases, spreadsheets and files.
The Skybits MCP connector lets an external AI client read and work with content in your Skybits account through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). You authorize the connection with your Skybits account. Available actions depend on the client's tool catalog, the connection's permissions and your access to each item.
Connection details
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Server URL for manual setup | https://skybits.ai/mcp |
| Transport | Streamable HTTP |
| Authentication | OAuth 2.0 with your Skybits account |
| Publisher | Skywood.AI |
| Support | support@skywood.ai |
| Privacy policy | Skybits Privacy Policy |
The server URL is a connector endpoint, not a documentation page. Add it in an MCP-compatible client rather than opening it as a normal webpage.
Before you connect
You need a Skybits account and a client that supports remote MCP servers using Streamable HTTP and OAuth. A managed account may require an administrator to enable custom connections. Availability and menu labels depend on the client's version, plan and organization settings.
In Skybits, select Connect agent from your library or a document to see the current setup instructions for your client. Use a non-sensitive test document for your first connection check.
Connect Claude Code
Add Skybits from your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user skybits https://skybits.ai/mcp
Open Claude Code and run /mcp. Select Skybits and authenticate when prompted. Complete the browser sign-in with the intended Skybits account, review the requested access and return to Claude Code.
The user scope makes this connection available across your Claude Code projects. If Skybits is already supplied through an installed connector or plugin, check your existing configuration before adding another connection.
For client-specific behavior, see Claude Code's MCP documentation.
Connect Codex
Add the server and start its OAuth sign-in:
codex mcp add skybits --url https://skybits.ai/mcp
codex mcp login skybits
Complete the browser sign-in with the intended Skybits account and review the requested access. Open Codex and use /mcp to inspect the available connection.
Codex also supports MCP configuration through its settings and configuration file. Use the method documented for your installed Codex version; the server URL remains https://skybits.ai/mcp.
See OpenAI's Codex MCP documentation for the current CLI and IDE setup options. A ChatGPT connector listing and a Codex MCP connection are separate installation paths; do not assume configuring one configures the other.
Connect Claude, ChatGPT or other MCP clients
Claude web and desktop
Where custom connectors are available, open Claude's connector settings and choose Add custom connector. Enter Skybits as the name and https://skybits.ai/mcp as the server URL. Connect, complete OAuth sign-in and enable Skybits for the conversation where you want to use it.
If custom connectors are unavailable, check your plan and organization policy. Skybits cannot override a client's administrator restrictions.
Other third-party agents
Add a remote MCP server using these settings:
- Name: Skybits
- URL:
https://skybits.ai/mcp - Transport: Streamable HTTP
- Authentication: OAuth
Use the client's own connection interface or documented configuration format. Client configuration files are not interchangeable. A client that supports only local command-based MCP servers, or cannot complete remote OAuth, may not support this connection directly.
Directory and marketplace installations
If your provider offers an approved Skybits listing, follow that listing's installation instructions. Directory availability is provider-specific; this guide does not imply that a listing is currently approved or published.
Directory installations can expose a curated tool catalog that differs from the general MCP endpoint. In particular, document-link and sync-graph tools may be absent from a directory connector. Check the tools exposed by the connection you actually installed rather than assuming every Skybits capability is available.
Verify the connection safely
Start with a read-only request using a non-sensitive document you can already open in Skybits:
Read the outline of this Skybits document: [paste the document link]. Tell me its section headings. Do not edit, share, delete or restore anything.
Confirm that the result refers to the intended document and account. A successful sign-in alone does not prove that the client can read the right item.
Then, if you want to test writing, use a separate test document and request one bounded change:
In this test document, suggest replacing the first sentence of the Introduction with “This is a connection test.” Do not change other sections or sharing settings.
Open the document in Skybits and inspect the suggestion. Accept or reject it yourself. Do not use a confidential production document to test unfamiliar tools or permissions.
What an agent can do
Depending on the connection and permissions, Skybits tools let an agent:
- Find accessible items and inspect document sections, canvas files or spreadsheet tabs.
- Read selected content and create or update documents, canvases and spreadsheets.
- Work with comments, supported file versions and exports.
- Inspect history and compare revisions.
- Organize content and perform sharing, Trash or restore actions when the relevant controls permit them.
The tools reported by your connected client are the available catalog for that connection. This guide does not promise a fixed tool count or a complete API reference.
How changes are reviewed
Not every item type uses the same review model:
| Item type | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Rich-text documents | Agent content edits appear as suggestions for a person to review. |
| Canvases | Source changes apply to the live canvas and are recorded in history. Review the result and compare revisions as needed. |
| Spreadsheets | Updates apply immediately. Human review tools mark and review changed cells; they are not a gate that holds every write before it takes effect. |
| Files | An uploaded replacement becomes a new immutable version. Inspect file versions; restoring an earlier version creates a new version. |
Canvas JavaScript requires a person to enable it and is turned off again after canvas edits. Inspect the source and external resources before enabling an interactive preview.
Permissions and access controls
An agent's access is bounded by its credential permissions, your access to the item and Skybits action controls. Signing in does not give an agent unrestricted access to every account or workspace.
Agent sharing is off by default. Sharing, moving items to Trash and restoring previous versions have separate controls in Settings → Agent permissions. Do not enable a broader permission simply to make an unexplained error disappear: first check whether the action is necessary and whether you have the correct item and account.
An edit request is not blanket permission to share content or change access. Give the agent an explicit task and ask it to confirm before actions outside that task. Client-side instructions complement, but do not replace, Skybits permission checks.
Disconnect or revoke access
Disable or remove Skybits in the external client's connection settings when you no longer need it. To manage access from Skybits, open Settings → MCP connectors, which opens Connections & API keys, and remove the relevant connection or revoke its associated credentials.
Removing a connection does not delete copies, exports or transcripts already held by another service. Review that provider's own retention and deletion controls separately.
Data handling
When an external AI client reads a Skybits item, the content returned by a tool is sent to that client for processing. Tool requests may also contain content the client supplies. Which information the client requests depends on the task, its behavior and the permissions available to it.
Review both the Skybits Privacy Policy and your AI provider's terms, privacy settings and retention controls before connecting confidential information. An MCP connection is not, by itself, a guarantee about a third party's training, retention or processing practices.
Start with the smallest useful scope and avoid putting passwords, API keys or access tokens in prompts, document links, screenshots or support requests.
Troubleshooting
Skybits tools are missing
Check that the connection is authenticated and enabled for the current session. Inspect the client's MCP server list and any organization restrictions. If you installed a directory connector, its catalog may intentionally differ from the general server.
Sign-in fails or repeats
Confirm that you can sign in to Skybits normally, that the browser and client are using the intended account, and that the client supports remote MCP OAuth. Check for an expired or revoked connection before reconnecting.
A document is not found or access is denied
Open the same link directly in Skybits with the same account. Check item access, connection permissions and whether the item is in Trash. A working connector does not bypass document permissions.
An edit does not look like a pending suggestion
Check the item type. Rich-text content edits use suggestions; canvas, spreadsheet and file-version changes follow the different review models described above.
A sharing, Trash or restore action is refused
Check the matching setting in Agent permissions and your own item access. Keep the action disabled if it is not required for your task.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate server URL for Claude Code and Codex?
No. Use https://skybits.ai/mcp for manual remote MCP setup in compatible clients. A provider-managed directory installation can use a different, curated connection path; follow its own instructions.
Is the Skybits skill required for MCP?
No. A client can connect directly through MCP without installing the local Skybits skill. The Skybits skill is a separate setup option for compatible local agents. Agent Bridge, which connects a local agent to Skybits chat, is also a separate workflow.
Does this mean Skybits is officially listed by every AI provider?
No. Technical MCP compatibility, a submitted application and a published provider listing are different states. Check the provider's live directory for current availability.
Can I use multiple agents with the same document?
Compatible agents can work with accessible Skybits content through their authorized connections. Keep tasks bounded and inspect the appropriate suggestions or history; do not assume every client has the same tools or review behavior.
